PANTHERS SUFFER 37-3 LOSS TO NO. 6 EDINBORO IN FINAL DUAL MEET OF THE SEASON

EDINBORO, Pa. - The Pitt wrestling team wrapped up its season this evening on the road, facing No. 6 Edinboro. The Panthers (7-7, 2-4 EWL) lost a tough dual meet, 37-3, to the Fighting Scots (17-1, 6-0). Pitt's Keith Gavin earned the team's only win with a decision at 174 pounds. Gavin (Factoryville, Pa./Lackawanna Trail) is ranked No. 2 in his weight class, and tonight he earned the team's three points with a 3-1 decision over Edinboro's Phil Moricone. With the win this evening, Gavin finished 6-0 in EWL bouts as he and his teammates prepare for the upcoming league tournament in March. Despite losses, several of the matches were determined within a few points. At 125 pounds, Brad Gentzle (Easton, Pa./Easton) came within one point in a 3-2 loss to Edinboro's Eric Morrill. Matt Kocher (State College, Pa./State College) lost a close 4-3 decision to Edinboro's Matt Hill at 157 pounds. And in the final bout of the evening, Zach Sheaffer (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) fell in a 2-0 decision to Edinboro's Joe Fendone. Next up for the Panthers is the EWL Championships on March 3 and 4. This year's tournament will take place on Cleveland State's campus. Pitt has placed third the last three seasons.
