ALBANY, N.Y.- On the second day of the NCAA Wrestling Championships at the Pepsi Arena in Albany, N.Y., the four Panther qualifiers remaining after day one were eliminated but not before junior Carl Fronhofer registered an upset over 12th-seed Nick Nemeth of Kent State in the second round of the consolation bracket at 165 pounds.

Fronhofer (Salem, N.Y./Salem) earned his 99th career victory with the 7-3 decision over Nemeth, gaining revenge on the Golden Flash grappler for a loss earlier in the season. He finished the tournament 2-2 after a 5-4 loss to Tyron Woodley of Missouri in the third round of wrestlebacks.

Three other Panther qualifiers were eliminated with their second losses of the tournament. At 133 pounds, fifth-year senior Shawn Amistade (Washington, Pa./Trinity) ended his career with a 7-2 loss to Marat Tomaev of Penn State.

Junior Justin Giovinco (Norristown, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh) was beaten by Marc Hoffer of American University, 11-3, in the second round of consolations at 149 pounds. Senior David Sandberg (Spokane, Wash./North Central) also finished his Panther career, losing 5-2 to Avery Zerkle of Lock Haven. Amistade, Giovinco and Sandberg all finished 1-2 in their respective weight classes.
