State College, Pa.  – The University of Pittsburgh wrestling team (3-1) dropped a 28-9 contest to No. 1 Penn State (5-0) in front of a record crowd of 15,996 at the Bryce Jordan Center.

After the Nittany Lions took a close bout at 125 pounds to open the dual, Shelton Mack evened the bout with a win over Jordan Conaway. The two 133 pounders were even at the beginning of the third but Mack went on a flurry scoring a pair of takedowns in the final minute to earn the 5-2 decision.

Penn State earned a narrow 3-2 win at 141 pounds to regain the lead heading into the bout between Mikey Racciato and James English at 149 pounds. The two wrestlers went back-and-forth throughout the bout before a flurry of action near the end of the match where Racciato was able to get English to his back for the fall at 6:52. The pin gave Pitt a 9-6 lead and silenced the sold-out crowd.
