Lancaster, Pa. - Redshirt junior P.J. Tasser captured the 174-pound bracket title while Ronnie Garbinsky and Donnie Tasser finished as runners-up in their respective weight classes to pace Pitt at the Franklin and Marshall Open.
P.J. Tasser took home his first title of the year after a solid tournament where he bested Clarion's Steve Nelson in the finals by a 3-1 margin. On his way to the 174-pound championship match, Tasser earned a fall at 2:50 over UMBC's Mike Munno, a 12-4 major decision vs. Belmont's Joe Maumoynier and a 6-4 decision over Phil Bakuckas of Rutgers.
At 157 pounds, Donnie Tasser used an impressive run where he recorded two pins, a major and a dominant 9-3 decision to reach the finals. In the championships bout, Tasser dropped a hard fought 3-2 decision to No. 5 ranked Dylan Alton of Penn State.
Ronnie Garbinsky also found the podium for Pitt at 149-pounds. Garbinsky cruised to the finals behind a pair of pins, a major and a 6-2 decision but eventually fell by pin fall to Penn State's fourth-ranked Andrew Alton.
The Panthers return to the mats on Sunday, Jan. 13, when they welcome Bloomsburg, Eastern Michigan and Davidson to Fitzgerald Field House for the Pitt duals beginning at 10 a.m.
