PITTSBURGH – The No. 12 ranked Pitt wrestling team will return to dual action this weekend when it hosts North Carolina State on Saturday, Jan. 11, at 7 p.m. and the Pitt Duals on Sunday, Jan. 12, beginning at 10 a.m.
The Panthers return to action this weekend when they host NC State in their first ACC home dual and then return to action the following day for Pitt Duals beginning at 10 a.m.
The Panthers are coming off an 11th place finish at the Southern Scuffle in Chattanooga, Tenn. For the tournament, Pitt was led by Tyler Wilps and Nick Bonaccorsi who each reached the podium at 174 and 197 pounds respectively.
Pitt is 4-1 in dual action on the season with wins over Lock Haven, Lehigh, Bucknell and ACC foe Maryland. The Panthers’ lone loss coming at No. 1 Penn State in front of a record crowd of 15,996 at the Bryce Jordan Center.
The Wolfpack are coming off a 21st place showing at the Sourthn Scuffle led by heavyweight Nick Gwiazdowski who placed second.
NC State is 7-1 in dual action with its lone defeat coming at the hands of No. 7 Illinois at the Northeast Duals. The Wolfpack have yet to compete in an ACC dual this season.
The Panthers’ roster features five wrestlers ranked in the latest InterMat polls, led by Max Thomusseit who is ranked sixth at 184 pounds while the Wolfpack roster features a pair of wrestlers ranked in the poll in 174 pounder Peter Renda (19) and heavyweight Nick Gwiazdowski (4).
On Sunday, Pitt, Buffalo, Clarion, Davidson, Duke, Eastern Michigan, North Carolina State, Seton Hill and North Carolina will compete in the Pitt Duals. Matches begin at 10 a.m. and start at 125 pounds. Each round will start five minutes after the conclusion of the previous round.
