PANTHERS LOOKING TO LEAD CONFERENCE WITH WIN OVER CLEVELAND STATE
Jan. 23, 2007 PITTSBURGH - The Pitt wrestling team will host its second EWL opponent this week when they take on Cleveland State on Wednesday, Jan. 24 at 7:00 p.m. The Panthers (5-3, 1-0 EWL) could move into a tie for first place in the league if they defeat the Vikings (7-2, 0-0 EWL) tomorrow night. At 133 pounds, Pitt's All-American Drew Headlee (Waynesburg, Pa./Waynesburg) will face David Armstrong, a 2006 NCAA qualifier. Both have six losses on the season. Pitt's No. 8 Matt Kocher (State College, Pa./State College) will wrestle Victer Crenshaw at 157 pounds. Kocher is undefeated in duals this season, and Crenshaw leads the Vikings with 22 wins. The 165-pound bout could be an exciting one as Pitt's Sean Richmond (Emmaus, Pa./Easton) takes on NCAA qualifier Marcus Effner. Both have similar records, and Richmond has picked up five dual wins this season. The final bout at 285 pounds also has the potential to be a good one as both Zach Sheaffer (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and Rashard Goff have earned 21 wins. Pitt is led by redshirt junior Keith Gavin (Factoryville, Pa./Lackawanna Trail), the No. 3 wrestler at 174 pounds, in addition to the wrestlers previously mentioned. They are coming off a dual win over Air Force last weekend where they won, 28-9. Pitt's other league victory was a 30-14 win over Bloomsburg in November. The Vikings have five wrestlers on their team with prior NCAA experience, and they are currently on a four-win streak. Cleveland State has won six of its last seven duals including a sweep at the Ashland Duals last week. Below are the probable starting lineups:
