PITTSBURGH - Pitt sophomore wrestler Matt Wilps was named the Eastern Wrestling League's wrestler of the week, as announced Monday by the league.

Wilps (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) earned two wins on the weekend against Cleveland State and Penn, helping to lead the 18th-ranked Panthers to a 13-1-1 record on the season. Wilps' recognition is the fourth league honor for the Pitt program this year.

At Cleveland State, Wilps pinned Jeff Schuller at 197 in just 2:11 to put Pitt up 37-3 in team scoring. At home against Penn, 19th-ranked Wilps defeated 20th-ranked Micah Burak, 2-1 to improve to a perfect 14-0 in dual matches this season.

Wilps and the Panthers will travel to Millersville Saturday for a 5 p.m. match against the Marauders.
