PITTSBURGH – University of Pittsburgh freshman 174-pounder Nick Bonaccorsi has been named the Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) Freshman of the Year, the Conference announced this week.
Bonaccorsi takes home the honor after a stellar freshman campaign where he went 19-9, won the EWL Championship at 174 pounds and qualified for NCAAs where he went 2-2 in his debut appearance.
The Bethel Park product joins an elite list of Panthers to be named EWL Freshman of the Year. The list includes All-Americans Rob Loper, Nick Mengerink, Matt Kocher and Ty Nauman.
Pitt finished its 2013 season with a pair of All-Americans, four EWL Champions and the EWL Tournament title. Additionally, the Panthers finished 15th at the National Tournament and 16th in the coaches’ final dual poll. Pitt will join the ACC in all sports beginning this summer.
