FARGO, N.D. - Last weekend, incoming freshman Dom Forys put on a display at the Junior Freestyle Nationals in Fargo, N.D. between July 24 - 26, posting a 7-1 record en route to a third place finish at the 126-pound weight division.
After receiving a bye into the second round, Forys dominated the opposition, winning his first three matches by technical falls, all by scores of 10-0, to earn a spot in the quarterfinals. As one of eight remaining wrestlers in the championship round, Forys fell to Kaid Brock, 14-2, and slid over to the consolation bracket. Brock, an Oklahoma native, will be attending perennial power Oklahoma State beginning in the fall.
Forys redeemed himself though, winning his final four matches, all by technical falls, to claim third at the event. He completed his run with decisive back-to-back 10-0 wins, with the last coming against Sean Deshazer.
A two-time state place-winner for nearby North Allegheny High School, Forys will begin his collegiate wrestling career at Pitt this year.
