PITTSBURGH - The No. 18 ranked University of Pittsburgh wrestling team will begin its 2012-13 dual campaign when it travels to Ann Arbor, Mich. to face No. 13 Michigan on Sunday, Nov. 11, at 2 p.m. The dual will be streamed live online via the Big Ten Network Digital Network.
The Panthers are coming off a successful opening weekend in which returning All-American senior Matt Wilps pinned Penn State's Quentin Wright at the 47th NWCA All-Star Classic on Saturday evening. In addition, six grapplers - Anthony Zanetta (125), Donnie Tasser (149), Tyler Wilps (165), Nick Bonaccorsi (174), Max Thomusseit (184) and Zac Thomusseit (285) - took home individual crowns at the Knight Point Open on Sunday.
Pitt returns an experienced roster in 2012-13 with seven wrestlers, who have qualified for the NCAA Championship. Head coach Rande Stottlemyer begins his 34th season at the helm of the program. During his tenure, Stottlemyer has amassed 295 dual wins, coached three National Champions, 31 All-Americans and 51 EWL Champions. Additionally, the Panthers have captured the last three EWL dual championships and the last two EWL tournament championships.
The dual with Michigan begins a difficult dual slate for Pitt which features matchups with eight teams that finished in the top-20 at last season's NCAA Championships. The Panthers have a 9-20-1 all-time record against the Wolverines, including a 19-13 victory last season at Fitzgerald Field House.
