Ashland Open Bracket
PITTSBURGH - Ty Lydic and Anthony Zanetta captured individual titles at the Ashland University Open to highlight a weekend of open tournament wrestling for the Pitt wrestling team.
Lydic picked up his first career open title by winning the 141 pound bracket at Ashland. The freshman started his tournament run with a narrow 2-0 decision over Trevor Moody of Indiana. Lydic followed the close contest with an impressive 10-1 major decision vs. Robert Mason of Ashland and a 5-0 decision over Brandon Westerman of Campbellsville. After scoring another close win to advance to the finals, Lydic took down Nick Barber of Eastern Michigan, 5-2, to claim the top spot on the podium.
Zanetta won his third open tournament of the season in convincing fashion using three majors to reach the finals and a 6-1 decision over Nick Roberts of Ohio State to claim the crown. In his three open tournaments this year, Zanetta has outscored his opponents by an impressive 125-29 margin.
In addition to the success of Lydic and Zanetta, Jordan Shulman also found the podium on the weekend, placing third at 197 pounds in Ashland.
The Panthers return to the mats on Friday, Nov. 30, when they open their home dual season against No. 12 Virginia Tech at Fitzgerald Field House.
