PITTSBURGH - The 18th-ranked Pitt wrestling team will open its 2012-13 home slate when it welcomes No. 11 Virginia Tech to Fitzgerald Field House for a 7 p.m. dual on Friday, Nov. 30. The match will be streamed live on Panther All-Access with Pete Blais and Greg Warnock serving as the broadcast team.
The Panthers are coming off a, 26-13, loss at No. 5 Ohio State on Nov. 18. In the match, Pitt won four of the final five bouts but it wasn't enough to overcome an early deficit. On the day, the Panthers picked up decisions from Tyler Wilps (165), Max Thomusseit (184) and Zac Thomusseit (285) and a major decision from Matt Wilps (197).
The Hokies, who are coming off a 25-6 home victory over in-state rival Virginia, enter the dual with a 3-1 record with the lone loss coming against Ohio State. Virginia Tech's roster features five wrestlers who are ranked in the latest Amateur Werstling News poll. VT is coached by Kevin Dresser who is in his seventh season with the program.
Pitt, which also has a wrestler ranked at five weight classes by AWN, has a 9-0 all-time record against the Hokies with the last meeting coming in 2004, a 26-11 Panther win in Blacksburg.
