PITTSBURGH - Anthony Zanetta has been named the EWL Wrestler of the week after capturing his fourth open title of the season at the Penn State Open, the conference announced today.
Zanetta, who has a perfect 18-0 record on the year, started his run to the 125-pound crown at PSU in dominant fashion with a 17-0 tech fall, a 15-2 major and an 8-1 decision to reach the semis. In the semis, Zanetta matched up with Brian Bokoski of North Carolina and was able to get the Tar Heel on his back for a fall at 2:43 to set up a match with second-ranked Nico Megaludis of Penn State in the finals. Zanetta was able to control the pace in the finals and earned a 3-2 victory by decision. For the season, Zanetta has outscored his opponents by an impressive 168-34 margin with a fall en route to his unblemished record.
Zanetta becomes the second Panther to take home EWL Wrestler of the Week honors joining Matt Wilps who was honored on Nov. 4.
The Panthers return to the mats on Friday, Dec. 7, when they host No. 16 Maryland at Fitzgerald Field House.
