1999-2000 Season Celeste Barkley provided depth and a solid presence in the paint for Pittsburgh last year...saw action in 27 games...stepped into a starting role five times, including in the WNIT...first earned a starting role against Ohio (Dec. 4) and her second came at Rutgers (Dec. 8)...she closed out the regular season with another start at Miami (Feb. 29)...earned another starting role at the Big East Tournament against St. John's when she recorded four thefts...averaged 3.5 points and 2.7 rebounds in 13.1 minutes of play for the season...had her most productive game when she tied her career high with a 12-point effort and a career-high nine rebounds versus Georgetown (Feb. 26)...recorded a season-high 12 points three times...had a strong performance in an early-season win over Ohio...netted 12 points on 3-of-3 shooting from the field in the game to go along with a 6-of-7 performance from the free-throw line...10 of her 12 points were scored in a decisive 21-7 run...also grabbed a season-high eight rebounds in the contest...scored 12 points in a 74-54 rout of West Virginia on 5-of-7 shooting from the field...was one of three players in double-figures versus Providence Feb. 5 when she dropped in 12 points...recorded a season-high four steals versus St. John's (Feb. 2)...added three steals, two assists and three points in a rout of Seton Hall (84-56) (Feb. 16).

Barkley played two seasons at Monroe Community College in New York...averaged 19.0 points, 11.4 rebounds and two blocks per game in 1998-99...led her team at Monroe to its first undefeated regular season (30-0) and a school-record 33 victories overall...scored 1,052 points in two seasons at Monroe, the second highest in school history...finished as Monroe's second all-time leading rebounder with 772 boards...set Monroe's single-season blocks record with 68 during the 1998-99 season...was a first-team All-Region selection in 1998-99...named the Region III Tournament's Most Valuable Player...served as her team's co-captain...earned second-team All-Region honors in 1997-98.
