Jania Sims returned to the lineup after a season-ending injury in 2008-09 and started in 29 of 31 games played in...a State Farm Coaches All-America candidate...earned All-Big East Honorable Mention honors as well as the MVP award at the annual Pitt Thanksgiving Tournament...named to the Big East Weekly Honor Roll...set career-highs in nearly every offensive category this year for the Panthers...tied for first on the team with 12.9 points per game and led the team in assists with 117...led the team from the free throw line, converting 103-of-125 attempted for an 82.4 percent clip...grabbed a season-high seven rebounds three times; against Marshall (Nov. 28), at Penn State (Dec. 12) and at Providence (Jan. 23)...scored a career-high 28 points on 11-of-19 shooting at West Virginia (Jan. 5)...set personal-best mark for free throws made and attempted after going 11-of-12 at Providence...played a season-high 41 minutes in overtime loss to Syracuse (Feb. 2)...hit three, three-pointers in a game on four occasions; against Georgetown (Feb. 10) and Louisville (Feb. 14) and at DePaul (Feb. 23) and Cincinnati (Feb. 27).
JUNIOR SEASON (2008-09)
Played in just one game before being sidelined for the remainder of the season...was 2-of-2 from the charity stripe with one assist in five minutes of action against Texas A&M.
SOPHOMORE SEASON (2007-08)
Jania scored 13 points, had five rebounds, four assists and three steals in win over James Madison...matched her career-high of 17 points against Cal Poly in just 24 minutes on 7 of 11 shooting...scored a career-high 17 points against Duke at the Maggie Dixon Classic in Madison Square Garden...Pitt's most consistent player at Maryland, scoring 14 points, five steals, four assists and three rebounds...scored Pitt's first five points in win over Arizona and went on to a 12-point game...scored 12 points and added five rebounds and three assists in win over Charlotte...sat out the second half of the season due to ineligibility.
FRESHMAN SEASON (2006-07)
Sims was named the starting point guard for the Panthers shortly after a season-ending injury to All-Big East guard Mallorie Winn...Sims played in all 33 games while starting 29...named to the Big East All-Freshman team...scored 11 points, including 7 of 8 from the free throw line, and had five assists in the first round of the NCAA Tournament...had a solid game vs. Marquette in the Big East Tournament with nine points, seven assists and four rebounds...set her career high with 11 assists and just two turnovers vs. Cincinnati in the Big East Tournament...just missed a triple-double with 12 rebounds, nine points and nine assists in win over DePaul...contributed six rebounds and five assists vs. WVU...scored nine and added five assists and four rebounds at Connecticut...played 37 minutes in win over Cincinnati, adding six points and three rebounds...grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds and added seven points in win over Villanova...led the team at Providence with six assists on the day...returned to the starting lineup vs. Notre Dame contributing nine points, seven assists and six rebounds...had eight points, a career-high eight rebounds and seven assists in win over Marquette...hit all six free throw attempts in the last :27 to clinch win over Robert Morris...finished the RMU game with 13 points and a season-best seven rebounds...played 39 minutes in win over Penn State logging seven points, seven assists and six rebounds...led the team with 16 points and 38 minutes at Akron in the win...grabbed a key offensive rebound with time running down in Pitt's last-second win over Boise State...also dished out the assist to Shavonte Zellous, who hit a game-winning three-pointer with 1.8 seconds remaining...hit key free throws down the stretch in Pitt's win over Utah...had six points and five assists in win at St. Bonaventure...nearly picked up a triple-double with nine assists, eight points and six rebounds in win over Mount St. Mary's...earned a start in her first collegiate game, scoring 12 points.
Sims guided Shabazz to an unprecedented fifth straight Essex County Tournament title, to a third Tournament of Champions title in four years and a No. 8 ranking nationally by USA Today after a perfect 33-0 season...averaged 11.8 points, 6.4 assists and 3.2 steals per game as a senior, earning All-Newark and All-Essex County First Team honors...a Star-Ledger All-Senior Team and All-Pickpocket Team member as well, Sims was a 2005 candidate for New Jersey Miss Basketball and earned NJSIAA North All-Star Team honors...as a senior, Sims surpassed the 1,000-point plateau and finished her Bulldog career with 1,197 points...named the Most Improved Player in the county by the Star-Ledger, which gave Shabazz its prestigious Team of the Year honor...honored as second-team all-state, the Watchung Conference Player of the Year and to the All-Watchung Conference Team...four-year starter at Shabazz and led the Bulldogs to an impressive overall mark of 117 wins and only nine losses...recorded a school-record 169 assists as a junior, surpassing the previous school record of 151 held by All-Big East selection Matee Ajavon of Rutgers.
