SOPHOMORE SEASON (2006-07)
Sylvie Tafen played in 32 games during the season while earning the starting position in 20...grabbed eight rebounds and hit two free throws in the final seconds to seal the win at USF...got Pitt off to a strong start vs. Villanova scoring six of its first eight points in the win...came off the bench at Louisville to add valuable minutes as well as six points and five rebounds...was a perfect 3 of 3 from the field in win over Ohio...scored a season-high eight points in win over Penn State...had eight rebounds and five points in 28 minutes in win at Akron...contributed nine rebounds in win over Boise State in 29 minutes of play...tied her career-high in rebounds with 10 at Duquesne...scored six against Mount St. Mary's...earned her first career start vs. California (Pa.)
FRESHMAN SEASON (2005-06)
Sylvie Tafen played in 26 games as a freshman reserve forward/center, missing five contests with a sprained ankle in February...made her only field-goal attempt for two points and had an assist in four minutes in the WNIT victory over Mississippi...hit both of her free throws in seven minutes of action vs. No. 7/8 Rutgers...pulled down four rebounds in just six minutes of action vs. Villanova...earned her first career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds vs. St. Bonaventure, making 2-of-3 shots from the field and 6-of-8 from the free-throw line...scored three points, and added two rebounds and a steal in the win over San Diego State...played a season-high 22 minutes in the win over Robert Morris, scoring two points, recording a season-high-tying four rebounds and the first assist and steal of her career...scored two points and added two rebounds and her first block in the loss to Penn State...had her best game thus far in the home opener against Akron with six points and two rebounds in the win...scored the first two points of her career on free throws in her collegiate debut at the TD Banknorth Classic vs. William & Mary...pulled down a season-best four rebounds in 13 minutes against Vermont in the championship of the TD Banknorth Classic.
Sylvie Tafen came across the Atlantic to Wheeling, West Virginia, from Cameroon, Africa, two years ago...led Mount De Chantal to the top ranking in West Virginia Class A in her two years on the team...averaged 11 points and four rebounds on her junior-year team that finished 27-7...was a tri-captain for the 2004-05 season and helped the Lions to a 26-5 mark...one of four seniors on Mount de Chantal's team to sign with Division I schools for the 2005-06 season...played AAU ball for the Queen City Jaguars in Ohio, leading the team to a first-place state finish and fifth-place national finish...has only been playing basketball for a few years but her skills have improved dramatically in a short time.
Sylvia Tafen was born on November 23, 1986...is the daughter of Andre and Lydie Nya Tafen...has four brothers and three sisters...a pharmacy major.
