Marcedes Walker played in all 33 games, making a start in 31 at the center position...named an All-Big East First Team selection after finishing in the top 10 in scoring, rebounding and field-goal percentage...a three-time Big East Weekly Honor Roll selection...led the Panthers in scoring (16.8), rebounding (9.1), blocks (36) and steals (49)....named to both the TD Banknorth Classic and Pitt Thanksgiving Classic All-Classic Teams...finished with 16 points and six rebounds, making seven of 11 field-goal attempts in the WNIT quarterfinal win over Virginia...rejected a career-high-tying four shots and finished with nine points and 10 rebounds in the WNIT victory over Delaware...made 9-of-11 shots and finished with 21 points and seven rebounds in her first Big East Championships game vs. Cincinnati.. grabbed a season-high 18 rebounds along with her 12 points for her 12th double-double of the year vs. Notre Dame...scored 24 points and had 10 rebounds for her 11th double-double against Rutgers, while making a career-best 10 free throws...batted down a career-high-tying four blocks, scored 17 points and pulled down 12 rebounds to record her 10th double-double in a win over West Virginia...dominated on the boards, pulling down 16 rebounds and scored 23 points vs. USF on 11-of-19 shooting, her fourth consecutive double-double...came off the bench to register a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds in 27 minutes vs. Georgetown...dished out a career-high four assists and tied a then-season high with 15 rebounds vs. Connecticut...poured in a team-high 18 points and pulled down eight rebounds vs. nationally ranked DePaul...put together a solid all-around effort in the win over San Diego State scoring 20 points, pulling down a season-best 15 rebounds and recording a career-high six steals, a new highmark for a Pitt center...tallied her first double-double of the year vs. Duquesne with 19 points and 11 rebounds...connected on 10-of-19 shots in the season opener against William & Mary for a season-best 26 points...named one of three team captains (Cheron Taylor, Mallorie Winn) for 2005-06 season.
FRESHMAN SEASON (2004-05)
Marcedes Walker made immediate contributions to the Panthers in her first season, earning All-Big East Rookie Team and honorable mention All-Big East plaudits...Walker was the first Pitt player to earn All-Big East honors as a freshman and the first Panther rookie in five years to make the All-Big East Rookie Team...a two-time Big East Rookie of the Week on Jan. 24 and Feb. 21...started the first 26 games at center for the Panthers before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury in the Rutgers game...earned an invitation to the USA Basketball National Team Trials but could not participate due to offseason surgery...impressively, she led the Big East Conference in rebounding (9.1) and also topped the Panthers in scoring (13.3), which ranked sixth in the Big East...upped her average in conference games to14.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game to lead all freshmen and rank fifth and first, respectively, in the Big East... hit 48.9 percent from the field to not only lead all Big East freshmen but the entire conference... drained 50.0 percent from the field in conference action to rank second overall and first among freshmen...led the conference in offensive rebounds (4.5 avg.)...led the team in scoring 12 times and in rebounding 15 times in her debut campaign... posted nine double-doubles on the year, which ranked third in the conference...was averaging a double-double over her final eight games, with 16.1 points and 10.1 rebounds per game while shooting 49.6 percent from the field...had a career day in the win over Robert Morris, finishing with 30 points and 14 rebounds in just 29 minutes... hit 12-of-19 shots from the field and 6-of-8 free throws...her 30 points were the most scored by a Pitt freshman since Pam Miklasevich scored 36 as a freshman against Slippery Rock on Feb. 6, 1980...it marked the sixth-best output by a freshman in school history...in the win over Providence, she finished with 23 points and 16 rebounds...hit 9-of-17 shots from the field for her ninth double-double of the season...pulled down a personal-best 19 rebounds and added 20 points to help the Panthers to a victory at Syracuse in the Big East opener...hit 6-of-11 shots from the field and 8-of-11 foul shots...followed that performance up with 20 points and nine rebounds against St. John's...notched a double-double against West Virginia, finishing with 16 points and 16 rebounds...also posted double-doubles against Notre Dame, Duquesne, St. Francis (NY), Clemson and in her collegiate debut at North Carolina A&T...finished with team highs of 17 points and nine rebounds against Connecticut... also added a career-high four blocks against the Huskies and hit 7-of-8 foul shots.
Walker earned McDonald's Honorable Mention All-America honors, leading University City High to three consecutive semifinal appearances and a championship appearance her senior year... three-year team captain...three-year leading scorer and rebounder...recorded a career-high 33 points and 22 rebounds her senior campaign... averaged 21.9 points and 8.9 rebounds her senior year...attended adidas' top 10 All-American in Georgia...named to All-City team three times... earned All-America honors (honorable mention) ...started for her AAU team winning the Police Athletic League (PAL) Nationals both sophomore and junior years...also a threw shotput for high school's track and field team and was a member of the volleyball team.
