Washington, D.C.-The University of Pittsburgh women's basketball team notched its first conference victory of the year on Saturday as it defeated Georgetown, 63-61, at the Hoyas' McDonough Arena. The Panthers improved to 6-8 overall and 1-2 in the Big East, while the Hoyas fell 8-5, 0-2 in the conference.

Juniors Brooke Stewart and Laine Selwyn each posted 16 points to lead Pittsburgh. Stewart was 7 of 15 from the field and added a career-high six steals, while Selwyn drained 8 of 10 foul shots and dished out six assists for the Panthers.

Freshman Haley Harguth added 10 points, including three 3-pointers, while junior Dallas Williams pulled down a team-high seven boards to go along with six points.

Pittsburgh opened up a 40-28 lead at the half as freshman Amy Kunich drained a deep 3-pointer as time expired. In the second frame, Georgetown pulled to within one point, 53-52, at the 7:27 mark, but the Panthers held off the Hoya rally for the victory.

Georgetown outrebounded Pittsburgh, 49-31, but the Hoyas committed 18 turnovers to the Panthers' 12. The Blue and Gold shot 42 percent from the field and held Georgetown to 38 percent, including a dismal 15 percent from behind the arc.

Pittsburgh is back in action on Saturday as it hosts Boston College at Fitzgerald Field House. Game time is set for Noon.
