Quoting Pitt's Head Coach Agnus Berenato
"This was a great win for us. Anytime you can start 4-0 in the best conference in the country you have to be satisfied. Providence has really come on in the Big East this season and won some big road games, so we were glad to win. We were a little sluggish in practice this week, so I was a little concerned coming in. However, I realized this morning that we were just sick of practicing and ready to play in a game. I thought our defense in the first half was great, and I was very pleased that we shot 52 percent while holding them to only 37 percent for the game."
On the play of Shavonte Zellous:
"Shavonte was phenomenal. Since January 1, she's really become a different kind of player, one who wants to take over a game. She's so athletic and versatile that she can attack any way that the defense allows her. It makes us a much more effective team, because we play against man and zone."
On the play of Marcedes Walker:
"Marcedes was great all around. She scored and rebounded like she's capable of, but what really stood out to me were her free throws. She had a little bit of trouble with them in practice this week, so it's nice to see that the practice paid off. It's amazing how many more points a game she can score when she's knocking those down."
Quoting Pitt's Shavonte Zellous:
On her play:
"It's nice to be going so strong, but I have to give all the credit to my coaching staff and to Marcedes Walker. The way she plays down low pulls in so many defenders and really takes the pressure off of me. I have a lot of room to drive and shoot, which makes putting up points so much easier."
Quoting Pitt's Marcedes Walker:
On playing with Shavonte Zellous:
"I still have to make sure I play my game, but it's great to have her out there. Even though Shavonte scores so easily, I have to make sure that I concentrate and stay focused and don't just start watching her. But I love that teams can't just focus on me and have to leave me alone now. They know that if they leave Shavonte alone, she's going to make her shots."
Quoting Providence Head Coach Phil Seymour:
On Marcedes Walker:
"Marcedes is a tremendous player and athlete. She is strong and a force inside and she can run. She is trouble for anyone and is one of Pitt's go-to players."
On Shavonte Zellous:
"Shavonte is a phenomenal player. She is so good. Her legs are strong and explosive and she can jump so high. She is an exceptional scorer and a future WNBA player. She has a soft shooting touch and whenever someone scores 30 points in the Big East, that tells you something."
On Providence players being out:
"We had five players out today and none of them will be coming back immediately. What we have now is what we'll have for most of the season."
On Pitt competing with the top teams in the country and Big East:
"I don't see them not competing. Pitt is good. Jania Sims being out hurts their depth, but Mallorie's [Winn] experience provides a dangerous back court. Agnus Beranato is a great coach and their experience from last year will help them this year."
