Pitt vs. Syracuse Post Game Player Quotes

Jan. 19, 2014

Recap |  Box Score |  USATSI Gallery

Quoting senior guard Ashlee Anderson

On first half performance:

“I feel like we stopped hitting our shots and we were relying on three-point shots because that’s what got us up early.  I feel like we did a good job in this game defensively, but we just couldn’t make the shots when we needed to make a play to go up or cut the lead.”

On adjustments made at halftime to break down the press:

“Coach told us to keep attacking and continue to knock down shots.  We knew that coming into the game they play as a zone team and we just had to make our shots, but as the game went on we were able to attack more, more so than shoot open shots.  I think that was the biggest advantage we had, trying to attack the basket.”

On taking positives away from the game:

“I think there are always positives to take away from a game.  Coach was telling us that Syracuse averages about 77 points a game and we held them to 58.  We know defensively that we can make stops and that we can hold teams.”

Quoting junior forward Cora McManus:

On playing down low:

“This is the ACC now, so all the post players are big and strong, but luckily; we’re big and strong too.  We lift just like they lift and we work out just like they work out.  It’s fun to compete.”

On pulling positives from the game:

“Coach is always telling us that as players we’re resilient and coming off two tough losses we are hungry for a win.  It’s good energy to have going into the upcoming week.”

On Brianna Kiesel’s performance:

“We’re staying positive with each other.  We’re a team and we stay as a team.  We’re a close knit group.  When one player is not at their average, or whatever you want to call it, we all pick it and her up and we have her back.  Next game I am 1000% positive that [Brianna Kiesel] is going to come with it and I’ll have her back then too.”
