POST-GAME QUOTESHEET
Pitt vs. Notre Dame, Jan. 23, 2013

Head Coach Agnus Berenato
On keeping the team on an even keel when playing No. 2 Notre Dame:
“You don’t want your team on an even keel. I think it’s a great opportunity for us to be able to play a top-five team in the nation. I don’t know that we want an even keel. I think it’s so important for my student-athletes to realize they are playing a top team in the country. They’re playing a team that the last two years has been in the national championship game. I really feel it’s not every day that you have that opportunity to play against the best.”

On this game as a measuring stick:
“I’m really proud of the team the way we played. We had three freshmen and two sophomores on the court a great majority of the time. I’m really, really proud of our team. As far as measuring stick, I don’t know. I’m not very good at that. I just take every game for what it is.”

Quoting players Brianna Kiesel and Lo Briggs

Brianna Kiesel --on ND’s 5-0 run
“We knew that we were going to fight, no matter if it was 5-0, 13-0, 20-0; we weren’t going to lay down. When they went on their 5-0 run I think we really started to buckle down, run our sets, and knock down those open shots. We had a lot of energy so Coach B settled us down during that timeout. That’s when we started to get things going.”

Lo Briggs -- on Asia Logan’s absence
“I know if there’s one thing that Coach B and the other coaches always tell us, it’s that you never know who’s going to go down. So, everybody has to be prepared to play whenever the time comes. You have to look at it as an opportunity and keep pushing and pushing. You have to be ready to play at all times.”

Quoting head coach Muffet McGraw and players Kayla McBride and Skylar Diggins

Opening Statement
“We started out okay then Sky (Diggins) got the two fouls and we didn’t respond. I was disappointed with that, but we came out in the second half strong with a 32-6 run. It’s tough having a homecoming when you have your whole town watching; I think it was tougher for Kayla and Madison to come out and play their game. I think we played well in stretches, but, overall a good defensive effort.”

Kayla McBride -- on playing in front of family and hometown friends
“It’s great to be able to come home and see my family in the stands. As soon as I walked in my dad started dancing and it just feels like a homecoming type of thing. I know a lot of people from Eerie made the trip to Pittsburgh, so it was great and I’m glad we got the win.”

Skylar Diggins --  on ND performance in second half
“We played defense and stepped up our defensive intensity. I think we had to be a little passive, me especially, because I got into foul trouble, but so did a couple others. We picked up the defensive pressure and we rebounded, and I think that made the difference. We got out of transition.”
