Georgia Tech at Pitt, Petersen Events Center, February 3, 2014

Quoting Pitt Head Coach Suzie McConnell-Serio

Opening statement:

“We just weren’t efficient enough on the offensive end and didn’t knock down shots. We didn’t capitalize on opportunities – layups, open 3-pointers. We did a lot of good things defensively in the zone. Georgia Tech is so athletic and long, so we just tried to mix up our defense. When we defended the way we talked about in practice, I thought we were very good at staying in place; when we had breakdowns, they would capitalize. They got every bounce in the first half. We dug ourselves too deep of a hole. I thought our players continued to fight and attack; they didn’t quit. Our team continues to battle no matter what.”

On trying to avoid offensive droughts:

“I know our starters can’t play 40 minutes, so as soon as we start a rotation, things start to break down. We need to find that chemistry where things don’t skip a beat once we start to sub. Sometimes fatigue is a factor. We realize we’re not that deep, but we have to find ways to maintain.”

On the fast-pace nature of the game:

“I thought we had to keep the game in the 60s to have a chance. We’re not a team that puts 80 points on the board on a regular basis. That’s why we played in a zone and made them take time off the clock. But they hit some tough shots, and they’re very talented.”

Quoting senior guard Marquel Davis

On getting to the rim frequently during the game:

“Coach told me that this would be a game where I could get to the basket, so I took that confidence she had in me and tried to penetrate.”

On if it’s frustrating to lose after beating Boston College last week:

“It’s frustrating to lose obviously. In order for us to win, everybody has to contribute. We’re not a one-person team. All of us have to have a good game in order for us to win.”
