Quoting Head Coach Berenato
"I thought it was a great effort. It was Pitt's first double overtime game since 1985. I think it's truly unbelievable how resilient this team is. This team just keeps fighting. I'm just so fortunate to be with this group of girls. The fact that they were able to do what they did without our point guard Brittany Gordon, and Marquel (Davis) being told she had to play the point for the first time, was amazing. That is truly what teams do. When we lost Asia (Logan), one of our top scorers, really showed how amazing our resiliency was. In a game like this, four points is a lot to overcome and every basket is so critical. We made some unbelievable shots to put us back in it to tie it up for overtime. (Brianna) Kiesel was just amazing; truly impressive. This game time is a kind of game that rips your heart out but at the same time, we are resilient and we believe in each other. Great game, great effort."
On importance of Brianna Kiesel's 3-pointer in the first overtime:
"It was huge. They came out and played great defense. We had to go for the three, and Brianna knew it would be in her hands. I felt really good with Brianna taking the shot. Marquel was really offensive minded tonight as well and she really attacked. It was what we wanted."
On importance of game in future late game situations:
"The more games you can be in like this, the more you learn. That's where you get experience. We have so many underclassmen on this team, all playing in late game situations. That's how you gain experience. These games are usually fought between juniors and seniors. We will be able to handle the pressure and know what to do. We are going to have to practice this hard every day for 50 minutes. You have to be ready to play in a game like this. That is what a team does."
On initial reaction when game ended:
"I thought we were going to score with two seconds to go. I thought we were going to win the game. My first thought was to shake hands and go to my team. But you win as a champion and you lose as a champion. This was a tough game, a real tough one. We're right there and we need to continue to have our confidence. This game will inspire some of our players to know how hard they work. I think everyone now knows the true meaning of teamwork and playing together. Tonight, we were all we had. There is a saying, `We're all we got,' and that was tonight. Everyone contributed."
Quoting players Brianna Kiesel and Marquel Davis
Brianna Kiesel - on her three at the end of the first overtime:
"Coach B said that we needed a three, and if she made one and missed one, we were going for a three regardless. I knew that the ball was going to be in my hands at the end of the game so I just went down and I shot the ball confidently and it went in."
Marquel Davis - on her left-handed layup to tie the game at the end of regulation:
"I saw the post in front of me, and as a guard, I just knew I had to attack the post player. She was going for the block so I tried to change it up with an underhand layup and succeeded."
