POST GAME QUOTESHEET
Pitt 66, Louisville 71 (OT)
Tuesday, February 14, 2012
Petersen Events Center

Quoting Pitt Head Coach Agnus Berenato

Opening statement:

“First of all, I just want to say thank you for being here. I think you saw a great game tonight and I think you saw a game that definitely wasn’t resembled of a top-15 team and a team that is now 0-12. I think that how good this league is I think it’s such a complement to my student-athletes and our team that we are working so hard and we have an attitude that we aren’t going to give up. I thought we had a great game plan; coach Coyle’s game plan. I thought we really confused them at different times. It took them not 40 minutes to beat us, but 45 minutes to beat us. I’m just disappointed for the student athletes on our team that we didn’t get this win tonight.”

On sequence after taking seven-point lead:

“I think it did. I think we were up and they pressed us and we became tentative. We were attacking and all of a sudden we looked tentative. We didn’t have anyone that took over for that one minute and it really hurt us. And then after we calmed down it was a two-for-two, a two-for-two, a two-for-two. We even had the last shot on them. I liked the play we called and I would go with it right now and again.”

On center Leeza Burdgess being an X-factor tonight:

“I felt like Leeza did a great job. Leeza had seven boards, and one of her best stats tonight is that she had five assists. She shot three for three and got offensive rebounds which were really important for us. She was one for two from the free throw line, had three huge offensive rebounds and then for her to have seven boards, seven points, two steals, a block and only one turnover in 36 minutes. It was unfortunate that she fouled out but I felt like she really has turned the corner and she has been manning the paint. I thought she did a great job. I thought the post did a really great job tonight.”

Quoting freshman guard Brianna Kiesel

“She gave me the right side, I’m right-handed, and I had a clear way to the basket. I thought it was going in but it just rimmed off on me.”

On stop attacking with the lead:

“No it was my fault. I tried to slow the ball down when we had 3 minutes instead of keeping us going with the rotation. I’m a freshman and it was a freshman mistake. I should’ve kept us going because that’s what we were going for the game and scoring and once I started slowing the ball down, we started getting turnovers and they scored on us.”

Quoting redshirt sophomore guard Ashlee Anderson

On effort play after missing foul shots:

“I just have to make my free throws. Point blank. They sent me to the line, and especially in overtime, and it’s something I have to do. My mindset for the next game is to make my free throws. I shoot free throws everyday but now I have to step it up because my team depended on me in that position and I didn’t close it for us. I just need to knock my free throws down and it didn’t convert for me. I just have to knock them down next time.”
