Georgetown 72, Pitt 70
Quoting Head Coach Berenato
"I thought it was a great game. From tip to the very last second of the game, it was a great game. I thought we had a great crowd. I think the Pitt community really came out and supported us in full force. I was really happy for the players that they got to play in front of a crowd like that. It was pretty exciting for them to play the whole bottom bowl. It was filled. It was really cool to see and the students pretty into it. We did a great job. We got down, and we did a great job coming back. Asia (Logan), I think these 16 rebounds have got to be probably her high maybe. Great double-double, and that's something she's definitely capable of. I thought Ashlee Anderson was terrific. I thought Ashlee came in and really played hard. She attacked, and she was able to stroke the ball well. She took shots that she was comfortable with. Ultimately, I think what happened was the turnovers got us. As far as the call is for Pink the Pete, it's extremely, extremely close to my heart. I'm very passionate about it. This game was from Howard Winn's mom, Cathy Winn, who was supposed to be our guest coach. She lives in California. She couldn't make it due to sickness.
To show the unbelievable impact that this team has on people and that we all have on people, I spoke to a birthday party before the game. Little twins. They had like 50 people. I went up, and they were so excited. They had really cute outfits that were all pink. I spoke to them, and they said, `Coach B, last year when you talked to us, you said we could make a difference.' They asked all their friends not to bring any gifts. These are their [piggy] banks, and this is the cash. They asked everyone to come and to bring money for breast cancer. They presented it to me when the game was over. These kids are nine years old. Their sister's a student here at Pitt. She was in the Zoo. When people saw me getting them, right away Mr. McManus opened up his wallet. He put money in. [Former Pitt player] Taneisha Harrison's back from Sweden. Her parents are here. Mr. and Mrs. Harrison opened up their wallet, and they were throwing a 20 in. That's the effect that people have on people. I know it's about winning and losing. We definitely lost the game, but we're not losing the battle."
On fighting back from the first and second half deficits
"We were determined to attack and put a lot of emphasis on attacking. We knocked down shots and we played very good defense."
On scoring and shooting percentage
"My teammates see me open and I try to knock down the shots. I'm trying to be aggressive. Also, my grandmother beat Breast Cancer and that really gave me a drive to play."
On playing Georgetown in the BIG EAST Tournament
"They're a good team and I like playing against them because they are competitive. This was a great game and as Coach (Berenato) always says, `It comes down to the last second and a lot of one-possessions.' We are going to go back to the drawing board and figure out a way to get the win next time."
