PITTSBURGH-Despite a career-high 21 points from junior Dallas Williams, the Pittsburgh women's basketball team dropped a 77-72 decision to William & Mary Friday night at Fitzgerald Field House. Williams tallied 21 points while shooting 7-for-8 from the field and 7-for-9 from the free throw line.

Pittsburgh opened up 32-25 advantage in the first half with just 5:53 remaining. However, the Tribe climbed back with a 12-5 run to end the half and knot the score at 37-37.

Both teams shot 45 percent from the field in the first half and the Panthers held a narrow 22-17 advantage on the board. Williams (Mason, Ohio/Mason) finished the half with 11 points.

In the second stanza, Pittsburgh went cold from the field, not recording its first point until the 15:12 mark on a Laine Selwyn (Coral Springs, Fla/Coral Springs) free throw. William & Mary embarked on a 20-8 run to take the lead with 10:38 remaining in the contest.

Pittsburgh crept to within two points, 72-70, with just under a minute to play, but the Tribe responded with clutch free throws to seal the victory.

For the game, Pittsburgh shot 40 percent from the field compared to William & Mary's 48 percent. The Panthers outrebounded the Tribe 42-37 and both teams registered eight steals.

Junior Mandy Wittenmyer (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) had 12 points and a game-high 13 rebounds for Pittsburgh, while Selwyn added 15 points and six assists in 30 minutes.

Quintina Walker led all scorers with 25 points for William & Mary (1-0).

Pittsburgh (0-1) is back in action on Tuesday, Nov. 20, as it hosts Bucknell. Game time is slated for 5:30 p.m. and will be followed by the Panther men's basketball game against Robert Morris.
