POST-GAME QUOTESHEET
Lafayette at Pitt, Petersen Events Center, November 17, 2013

Quoting Pitt Head Coach Suzie McConnell-Serio

 Opening statement:

“We failed miserably at learning to win this afternoon (with bad) decision-making at both ends of the floor and shot selection early on which carried throughout the game. Not taking shots when they should, driving and getting blocked instead of trying the open shot. (We were) undisciplined both offensively and defensively (and) we took a risk late in the game and it didn’t pay off, we left a wide-open shooter and went down. It was a one possession game and we didn’t understand that we needed a three. I hate not having a time-out late in the game for that reason, but we wanted to ice the shooter and we talked about what shot we would need depending on what happened. I specifically looked at our team and told them to know whether we needed a two or a three if this goes. To come down the floor and not get the three (to tie), but to (also) not get a shot at all is very disappointing. Everything is a learning process with this team and at the expense of a loss they will learn something from this game.”

On the rebounding effort:

“I expect more from everyone on the glass. We play four guards a lot, so when you’re small you have to make a team effort to rebound the basketball. We were just lazy we didn’t finish on defense, we didn’t pursue the basketball. These are things that we work on every single day in practice. That was my frustration at halftime; we don’t transfer what we do in practice to a game situation. This is not the team that I see every day in practice, we didn’t compete today and it’s very disappointing. I don’t know why but we just didn’t compete at the level that we need to.”

On letting opportunities slip away:

“This is what this game was about, a bunch of missed opportunities. We had some chances to capitalize and we didn’t. We had some moving screens, some travel calls, and just bad turnovers. This whole game is about decision-making and we’re not going to win many games if we put 45 points on the board.”
