QUOTING PITT HEAD COACH Agnus Berenato

Opening statement:

"I just want to say congratulations to our team.  I think that we really weathered the storm.  I thought that we came out with intensity, but we weren't really connecting in the first six minutes and we were down.  I think you always wonder how people are going to respond and I thought that we did a really good job in responding after the first five minutes.  We got up at halftime and the reason we were up was because of our defense.  Our defense today definitely created our offense.  I think that really showed by our point off of turnovers and we had 31 points off of turnovers.  At halftime we only had six turnovers and I think that is really a compliment to our team and to the staff."

On Marquel Davis' performance:

"I thought we really needed a spark when we missed some shots and Marquel went into the game.  I thought Marquel did a great job.  We ran a few sets for her, and she was able to take advantage of them and go in all the way and score.  Marquel did exactly what we wanted and she attacked the basket and she was successful in attacking the basket."

On Kyra Dunn's performance:

"I can't say enough about her improvement and today she had her first ever double-double."

On annual School Day promotion:

"Our promotions people did an unbelievable job for School Day.  I thought the school kids were fabulous.  What a great win-win for the students, meaning the kids, as well as our students, the athletes."

On young team handling adversity:

"I think that it is tremendous.  I think it should tell them a lot, as well as it tells the staff a lot.  Again, I'm really proud of this team, because they stayed together and I think this will be a great learning experience.  I'd rather have them learn in experience from a win than learning from a loss."

QUOTING Marquel Davis, SOPHOMORE GUARD

On what she saw in their defense that she was able to take advantage of in the second half:

"They were guarding us man, so I just listened to my coaches about what type of plays to run that would set me and my teammates up for success. Basically, it was all about listening and being disciplined."

On what has changed between their first game and today's game:

"I feel like our focus is better. In practice we worked hard on our sets and getting to know them to perfection. So our focus coming into the game shifted, and we came out really confident in knowing what we were going to run and that really helps. In our first game we were a little more scattered, and when we had downs we would stay down instead of fighting back and playing with emotion."

On her scoring outburst of 15 points in five minutes:

"In the first half I was really anxious, but my teammates really helped and going into the second half they said motivating things to help me calm down. The game comes to you when you calm down. I've never scored that many points in that short of a span, but it really was just my teammates. They helped me refocus in the second half."

QUOTING Kyra Dunn, SOPHOMORE FORWARD

On what has changed between their first game and today's game:

"Our intensity changed. We've been working really hard on crashing the boards and playing with some emotion. Our first game we came out flat and played with no emotion which we realized we couldn't do because it creates opportunity for the opponent to come up and get a lead on us."

On how she was effective on both sides of the court getting her a double-double and six blocks:

"Defense and intensity is something we preach day in and day out. I take pride and believe in these two things, especially knowing that when I get a rebound or block a shot that is what gets my game going and turns to points. I just try to stay focused and disciplined."
