POST GAME QUOTESHEET
Pitt 77, Central Michigan 70
November 20, 2011
Petersen Events Center
Quoting Pitt Head Coach Agnus Berenato
Opening statement:
“I am very proud of Brianna (Kiesel) and Marquel (Davis). I thought that they really took over and I don’t know that I say that very often. Brianna and Marquel were very persistent and it really paid off. I thought that it was a very hard fought game. I think you really see a difference since our first game.
Each team was playing each possession like we were fighting for our life and that’s how we felt. I felt that way, so I know they felt that way and I know the other coach felt that way, as well as their players. Hence, I think that’s the reason there were so many turnovers.”
On similar statistical outputs:
“We were separated by one turnover. Rebounds, we both had identical 39. It’s unheard of to have the same amount of rebounds. Turnovers, it was a difference of one, blocks, each team had exactly three.”
On free throws being key in win:
“I thought that today we won the game on the free throw line and that’s something we have been struggling with (in other games). Again, Brianna did a fabulous job with that (shooting 15-of-17).. Marquel was great as she was 4-of-5, as well. Our goal is 80 percent and we were 83.3 percent today.”
On Leeza Burdgess’ performance:
“I also thought that Leeza Burgess came in and really gave us a spark (and) that was amazing. She is really becoming a strength and a power house off the bench and I think that she shocks people by her strength. She had 13 points, eight rebounds and she shot 6-of-9 from the field. I am just so proud of Leeza Burdgess.”
Quoting Pitt guard Marquel Davis
On career-high 26 points:
“I didn’t really pay attention to how many points I was scoring, so I didn’t know how many I had until the end of the game. I was really just focused on executing our plays, pushing the ball in transition and keeping my team hyped.”
On staying composed in game of runs:
“Just not panic. I think that was what we did best. Even when they would come down and make a run and the game would get close again, just not panic.”
Quoting Pitt guard Brianna Kiesel
On career-high 24 points:
“I didn’t really pay attention to my scoring numbers. I was really just trying to do what I do best which is attack and then dish.”
On feeling more comfortable as a collegiate point guard:
“I’m not really feeling like a college player because I’m still averaging seven turnovers, which really isn’t good. Every game, I still feel nervous, I still have those jitters, but as time goes on with Coach B and my teammates helping me out, hopefully those will go away.”
