POST GAME QUOTE SHEET
Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012, Petersen Events Center
Pitt 65, Wagner 39

Quoting head coach Agnus Berenato

On effort this evening
“I’m really pleased with my team’s effort.  We played really hard tonight.  We got the majority of our points off of our defense.  This is something we have been saying to the team.  We want to have an identity and to have defensive pressure. In the last two weeks we have grown so much.  We have really ramped up our head-to-head pressure, defensive pressure, and our in the gap defense.  Today showed that our offense came from our defense.  We were able to force 21 turnovers and get 27 points off those turnovers.  That says a lot about our defensive effort.

Today our offense was stagnant but our defense carried us.  We were able to get the breaks that we needed.  We did a really good job on the boards.  Everyone really pounded the glass.  I was pleased with our guard’s efforts as well.  Our guards also hit the glass.  It was a balanced attack.  I was glad to see Loliya Briggs give us eight assists.  To me assists turn into scores.  That would be 16 points.  She also made some really great passes.  Asia (Logan) is doing a phenomenal job for us as far as scoring in the first half.  She had 13 in the first half but we had to get her some help. Brianna (Kiesel) really maintained her court composure and did a great job.  Her defense started out the team on our defensive run.  She is, without a doubt, our coach on the court and our leader defensively.  Marquel Davis came in and gave a tremendous amount of effort.  It’s great to have someone come in like a Marquel.  She really spices it up.  She went to her left really well and has a quick first step.  19 assists on 26 shots is a team effort to me.”

Asia Logan, Junior Forward

On her confidence with her mid-range shot:
“My teammates saw me wide open in the middle and they have confidence in my shot.”

On the first two minutes of the game:
“She [coach] just told us to take our time with our shots and to be calm.”

Brianna Kiesel, Sophmore Guard

On her half-court shot:
“In the first three minutes we really came out and applied some defensive pressure to score. We had eight points to their three in about two and a half minutes. That sparked us defensively.”

On the first two minutes of the game when Pitt was down by six points:
“Coach didn’t yell at us. She gave us confidence and told us to take our time, slow it down and run your offense.”

On the second half:
“Our confidence increases with each game. In practice we’re really showing each other that we have each other’s back and every game is another chance to win.”
