Head Coach Agnus Berenato

Opening Comments:
“I’m really proud of our team. I think Brianna Kiesel had been going through a hard time on the court the last few games and tonight she overcame that. She did a great job with the inside-outside game and leading the team on the court. Every time there was a break she looked over to us on the bench and listened to what she needed to listen to. Chyna Golden and Asia Logan both had double-doubles. I told Asia that it wasn’t about her scoring but her rebounding, and she finally got that. I am most pleased with our 10 turnovers and 20 fast break points. We also had 28 points from turnovers. Our defense in the second half was terrific.”

On the last three minutes of the first half:
“I thought Loliya Briggs had a great game today. What got her going was putting her in at the four. When we went with four guards Loliya Briggs just took over.  Marquel Davis, Brianna Kiesel and Loliya Briggs played really well together. Loliya Briggs trapped and played the post well, which generated some tips and deflections that led to steals.”

On the second half:
“We thought in the very beginning of the game that we had a lead, but you never know with this game. However, they could never get ahead of us and pull away. We were trying a lot of different combinations and we played four guards for a long period of time.”

On the verge of becoming the winningest coach in Pitt history:
“I’ve been here ten years and am thankful to be here at Pitt. Chancellor Nordenberg gave me an opportunity to come and coach a winning program. For him [Chancellor Nordenberg], it was about having great student athletes, winning, having our players graduate and represent the University and community.”

Brianna Kiesel, Sophomore Guard

On her performance and mindset:
“I knew that they were going to be an aggressive team and I knew that they were going to be quick, so I was really in the gym working out because I wasn’t going to be able to get to the basket as easily. I thought I was going to have to use my pull-up jump shot, so shooting those two free-throws [Longwood committed a technical foul before the opening tip-off] really helped get my game going.

On five game winning streak:
“I think our team chemistry is really on a high note right now. Our practices have been really intense, [we’ve] really been paying attention, listening, getting together. I think we really know our scouts. I think we really pay attention and know our player personnel.

On long home stretch and if it has helped:
“I agree. I think playing at home gives us an extra boost because we have to protect our home court. It gives us that extra confidence because this is our house, we want to protect it.”

On upcoming road swing:
“I’m excited about every game. Every game is the chance to win so, whether we play outside, in a park or in a gym, its fine with me.”

Asia Logan, Junior Forward

On five game winning streak:
“We also have really focused this season like we’ve been expecting ourselves to. I’m really in tune with my scout and I’m sending out mass text messages to people, so we’re just focused this year.

On long home stretch and if it has helped:
“I believe so because we have our fans. They support us and we love them.”
