Pitt vs. Duquesne Player Quotes

Dec. 29, 2013

Recap |  Box Score |  Photo Gallery 1  |  Photo Gallery 2

Quoting junior guard Brianna Kiesel:

On taking on scoring load:

“It just happened that the ball just fell into my hands and I was able to have a lot of run-outs. Our defense was really good, so we had a lot of deflections which gave wide open layups for me.”

On the rivalry of the City Game this year with Coach Suzie McConnell-Serio:

“Coach gave us a really good game plan. She set us up in a good defense. Coach beat us twice when she was at Duquesne, and now she came to us and we beat them. This shows that the factor was Coach McConnell-Serio. I definitely think this was a big win for us.”

On Marquel Davis’ performance:

“She really came through for us. I had four fouls so that put her in our point guard position and I thought she did a phenomenal job. She had some really big drives to the basket. She can take any guard to the basket. When she had [Wumi Agunbiade] on her, and her first step she was definitely going to get by her. Towards the end, when there was five minutes left, she had those two back-to-back buckets that brought us something extra to keep pushing.”

Quoting senior guard Marquel Davis:

On the rivalry of the City Game this year with Coach Suzie McConnell-Serio:

“It was a special game to show how good of a coach she is. It definitely meant a lot to us to just work hard for her. She was going against a team that she built up to be as good as they are, and she came to our program that she is building as well. It was a special game because we wanted to win it for her, being that she came from Duquesne to be with Pitt.”

On frustration of injuries in the beginning of season:

“Since my injury, I knew eventually I had to get back into my game, penetrating to the basket. [Coach Kathy McConnell-Miller] said to me that I needed to get to the basket and we need people to get to the rim. I realized I only took one shot and it was a jumper. My mind set going into the second half was to attack and you’ll either have the layup or have one of your teammates open for a shot. I just did that, and for once I just told myself to play your game instead of being hesitant because I sat out the first half of the season.”
