WASHINGTON, D.C. – Head Coach Agnus Berenato recorded her 300th career victory as Pittsburgh’s women’s basketball team knocked off Georgetown, 85-81, on Saturday afternoon at McDonough Arena. The Panthers, who are now 11-6 overall and 3-3 in the Big East, won their second in a row while the Hoyas fell to 6-11 and 1-5 in the conference.

Adding to the memorable day for Pittsburgh was senior Allisha Morris, who had a career day. Morris finished with personal-bests of 22 points (8-of-13 shooting) and nine rebounds. She also added two blocks and two assists in 27 minutes off the bench.

Along with Morris, four other Panthers hit double figures in scoring. Freshman Marcedes Walker posted 20 points and pulled down nine boards, while junior Katie Histed chipped in 14 points. Senior Jessica Allen (11 points) and sophomore Jennifer Brown (10) notched double digits for Pittsburgh.

The Panthers fell behind 17-8 midway through the first half before coming alive. Walker and Morris provided a huge spark, though, as they scored the next 20 points between them, 12 for Walker and eight for Morris. Following the low-post barrage, Pittsburgh went on a 9-0 run to close the half and take a slim two-point lead (40-38) at intermission.

The Panthers’ advantage was built to eight points with 15:24 remaining in the game, but Georgetown’s Kristin Heidloff drilled three straight 3-pointers and closed the gap to two points. However, Pittsburgh responded and seemed to grab control of the game with five minutes left in the contest.

The Hoyas refused to go away and found itself down just three points, 84-81, on a Varda Tamoulianis layup with five seconds left. Histed sealed the victory with a free throw and Georgetown did not get another shot off.

For the game, Pittsburgh hit a season-best 46.6 percent (27 of 58) from the field, including 7-of-16 shooting (44 percent) from behind the 3-point arc. Georgetown was 29 of 66 (44 percent) from the field.

Pittsburgh looks to snap a 17-game losing streak to Connecticut as it hosts the Huskies on Wednesday night at the Petersen Events Center. Tip off is slated for 7 p.m.

NOTES: Pittsburgh had 20 assists to 15 turnovers…the Panthers’ bench outscored Georgetown’s bench, 47-11…Pittsburgh had 40 rebounds to the Hoyas’ 35…Walker hit 8-of-9 free throws.
