PITTSBURGH – Pitt women's basketball's (13-13, 4-9 ACC) return to the win column was a roller-coaster ride, ultimately ending in thrilling fashion as the Panthers defeated Virginia Tech (16-10, 3-10 ACC), 72-64 Thursday night at Petersen Events Center.

The win halted a six-game losing streak for Pitt, while the Hokies’ woes continued for a ninth consecutive game. The Panthers put up 32 points in the fourth quarter, the most scored of any quarter this season. Also of note: Pitt scored a season-low five points in the first period.

Sophomore forward Brenna Wise set a school record en route to a career-high 31 points. She hit 13-of-13 from the free throw line, marking the most single-game free throws made without a miss in Pitt history. She became the second Panther ever to record two or more perfect games of 10 or free throws, alongside Brianna Kiesel (12-of-12, Feb. 5, 2015; 10-of-10, Feb. 1, 2015). Earlier this season, Wise made 11-of-11 in Pitt’s 62-54 win against Virginia (Jan. 22). Her 31 points were the most scored by a Panther since Kiesel had 32 at Tennessee in the 2015 NCAA Tournament (March 23, 2015).
