PITTSBURGHPittsburgh freshman standout center Marcedes Walker will miss the rest of the 2004-05 season after suffering a shoulder injury during the Panthers’ game against Rutgers on Feb. 25. Walker will undergo surgery to repair the damage in her right shoulder.

A candidate for Big East Freshman of the Year, Walker (Philadelphia, Pa./University City) leads the conference in rebounding (9.1 avg.) and field goal percentage (48.9 percent). Her 13.3 scoring average leads Pittsburgh and ranks sixth in the league, while her nine double-doubles rank third in the Big East.

Walker, who did not play in the Panthers’ 80-43 victory over Providence on Monday, finished her rookie campaign by posting 14.5 points and grabbing 9.5 rebounds in Big East play, which also topped all freshmen in the conference.

A two-time Big East Freshman of the Week, Walker started all 26 games she played in this year and led Pittsburgh in scoring in 12 games and rebounding 15 times.

The Panthers finished the regular season with a 13-14 record overall and a 5-11 mark in the Big East. Pittsburgh is back in action on Saturday in the Big East Tournament at the Hartford Civic Center.
