Pitt Women To Play Villanova In First Round of Big East Tournament
March 4, 2008
PITTSBURGH - The No. 5 seeded Pitt women's basketball team will meet up with No. 12 seed Villanova Saturday, March 8 at Noon in the first round of the Big East Tournament. The game will be broadcast live on FSN Pittsburgh. The Panthers earned the seeding after a dominating 70-33 victory over Georgetown Monday night. The No. 5 seed is the highest for a Pitt team since they were fourth in 1995. Pitt is 11-22 all-time in the tournament and is looking to win more than one game for just the second time in school history. In 1996, the No. 13 seeded Panthers defeated Miami and Villanova before falling to Connecticut in the third round. If Pitt advances, the team will meet up with No. 4 seed Notre Dame, who receives a first-round bye. Notre Dame defeated Pitt 81-66 earlier this season in South Bend, Ind. The game would be Sunday at Noon. Pitt's first round contest with the Wildcats will be broadcast as a part of Big East Television on FSN Pittsburgh. If the Panthers advance, they will play Sunday at Noon on ESPNU against Notre Dame. All action from the Big East Tournament will be broadcast live on FOX Sports Radio 970 AM with Greg Linnelli and Jen Tuscano calling the action. In addition, every game can be heard live on www.pittsburghpanthers.com as a part of Panthers All-Access.
