PITTSBURGH
- The University of Pittsburgh women's basketball team will open up first-round action in the WNIT Friday, March 19, against the University of Toledo Rockets at Savage Arena in Toledo, Ohio.

The Panthers (16-14, 5-11 Big East) are making their fifth straight postseason appearance and fifth WNIT showing. Pitt is coming off back-to-back Sweet 16 finishes in the NCAA Tournament.

Toledo, winners of the Mid-American Conference West Division, advanced to the championship game of the MAC Tournament, falling to Bowling Green, 62-53, in Cleveland, Ohio. The Rockets are led by a trio of double-digit scorere with All-MAC First Teamer Tanika Mays with 14.8 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. Sophomore guard Naama Shafir led the conference and ranks third in the NCAA with 6.78 assists per game.

Pitt and Toledo will be meeting for just the third time in series history. The two teams first played against each other during the 1990-91 season, with Toledo taking the 81-67 win at home. A year later, the Rockets returned to Pittsburgh, making it two games in a row following their 69-60 win in the Lady Panther Invitational.

Friday night's game is set for a 7 p.m. tip and will be broadcast live on Fox Sports 970 AM with Neil Sika and Jen Tuscano sharing the calling duties. Fans can also catch the game live through Toledo's website, www.utrockets.com, with live-streaming video of the first-round matchup.
