PITTSBURGH - University of Pittsburgh women's basketball head coach Agnus Berenato has a starring role in the Pittsburgh Opera's marketing campaign for Puccini's classic, Tosca.
Berenato is featured in ads - both electronic and print - for the Pittsburgh Opera. Tosca tells the story of an opera diva, portrayed on stage by soprano Angela Brown, who defies the most powerful and corrupt man in Rome.
Always active in her community, Berenato was in costume - a ball gown and wig - for the photo shoot taken by Duane Rieder last winter which required jumping from a raised platform onto a crash pad. A behind the scenes video of the photo sessions and how Coach Berenato prepared for her `role' can be found at this link.
"This was a fun and amazing experience," said Berenato. "Duane does a lot of work for us at Pitt and is a very good friend of mine. He called to see if I was interested and I jumped at the chance. I had no idea (that) every time I turned around in the city, I would see my photo! What a great opportunity this has been to participate and give just a small thing back to the community."
Tosca opens on Saturday, March 24 at 8 p.m. at the Benedum Center. Other performances will be held on Tuesday, March 27 (7 p.m.),Friday, March 30 (8 p.m.) and Sunday, April 1 (2 p.m.). Ticket prices begin at $10. For more information, visit www.pittsburghopera.org.
