Pitt Releases 2005-06 Women's Basketball Non-Conference Schedule and Big East Opponents

The Panthers won 13 games last season, their highest victory total in five years.

PITTSBURGH—The Pitt women’s basketball team released its non-conference game schedule and list of Big East opponents for the 2005-06 season. The Panthers won 13 games last season for their highest-victory total in five years.

The Panthers will be hosting a Thanksgiving weekend tournament at the Petersen Events Center and compete against six teams that saw postseason action in the NCAA Tournament. Pitt also travels to West Virginia to play the Mountaineers, who lost in the final of the WNIT last season. In addition to the Mountaineers, the Panthers take on South Florida, St. John’s and Villanova, all teams that saw postseason action in the WNIT.

The Panthers will open their season at the Petersen Events Center with exhibition games against California (PA) (Nov. 11) and the OGBM Legends (Nov. 15). Regular season play will officially begin on Nov. 18 when the Panthers travel to Vermont to compete in the Banknorth Classic against Vermont, William & Mary, and Colgate.

Pitt will face impressive competition during its Big East games, hosting Connecticut, which won the Big East title in 2005, and Rutgers, which advanced to the NCAA Elite 8. The Panthers will also host Georgetown, Louisville, Providence, Seton Hall, South Florida and Syracuse. The Panthers will travel to Cincinnati, DePaul, Marquette, Notre Dame, South Florida, St. John’s, Villanova and West Virginia.The Big East had a total of six players taken in the 2005 WNBA Draft.

The schedule of exact dates and times for Big East games will be announced at a later date.
