PITTSBURGH – Pitt women’s basketball will face DePaul and Georgetown each twice during the 2012-13 Big East regular season, it was announced by the league on Wednesday. The Big East also released the home and away schedule for the 15-member teams.
The format for regular-season league play will continue to be a 16-game schedule with each team hosting six opponents at home and six opponents on the road. Teams will play two repeat foes where both a home and away game will be played.
Pitt will face eight opponents in 2013 at the Petersen Events Center, hosting NCAA Championship runner-up Notre Dame and NCAA participants DePaul and Georgetown. The Panthers also will entertain Cincinnati, Marquette, Providence, Villanova and USF.
In her tenth season at Pitt, head coach Agnus Berenato will lead the Panthers to a road slate which includes contests versus four squads who competed in the 2012 NCAA Tournament: Connecticut, Louisville, Rutgers and St. John’s. In addition, Pitt tangles with Seton Hall and Syracuse on the road.
“I am very excited to compete in the Big East and look forward to the upcoming season,” said Berenato. “We have a great home schedule coupled with an extremely tough away slate and I am ready to get it started.
The Panthers return four starters and eight letterwinners from last season’s squad, which includes Big East All-Rookie team selection Brianna Kiesel.
Pitt will announce its full schedule in September.
