2008 EAGL Beam Champion
AS A JUNIOR (2008)
Continues to be a consistently solid performer on the balance beam for the Panthers...Enters senior season as defending EAGL Balance Beam Champion...Set career-high mark of 9.850 on the beam against UNC, Cornell and Temple March 22 then a week later turned in another 9.850 performance to win the EAGL Championships at West Virginia...Posted a 9.800 at George Washington to go along with a 9.725 against Rutgers for a season average of 9.488...Competed on the vault in the final five meets of the season, averaging 9.720 and setting season and career highs with a 9.800 against UNC...Named EAGL Specialist-of-the-Week for the period ending March 27...First-team All-EAGL selection.
Anya Chayka remained one of the team's leading competitors on the balance beam as a sophomore...won the balance beam competition at Rutgers with a 9.775...scored a career-high on the balance beam at NC State and a 9.750 on the floor exercise at the EAGL Championships...also appeared in the vault lineup...scored a 9.800 for fifth place on the balance beam at Arkansas...took second on the balance beam at NC State and finished fourth against Air Force and New Hampshire.

Chayka was an All-EAGL second team selection on the balance beam in her first season with the Panthers...competed in every meet of her rookie campaign on the balance beam...one of two Pitt gymnasts to qualify for balance beam event finals at the Missouri Cat Classic...set a career-high 9.750 and placed third on the balance beam on January 29 at New Hampshire...won the balance beam event title in the February 4 meet against Rutgers, scoring a 9.650...placed fourth and set a career-high 9.725 on the vault on February 17 against Maryland and Rutgers.
Chayka was a national qualifier at both Levels 9 and 10, but was unable to compete as she was not a U.S. citizen...trained for five years at Hill's Gymnastics under the guidance of Amy Martelli and Kirk Morris...prior to Hill's, she trained in Russia for seven years...was born in Russia and moved with her parents to the U.S. for high school.
