LEILA TAIT will be a co-captain for the Panthers for the second consecutive year, joining Sarah Gibson as the only seniors on the team. Leila enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2004 and will be counted on to lead the Panthers in three events in her final campaign.
JUNIOR (2004): Tait competed in all 12 meets for the Panthers on the uneven bars and added seven appearances on the balance beam...had team's third-highest average on the bars (9.673) including a 9.9 performance at West Virginia on January 23...also recorded a 9.9 on the balance beam in that meet, the team's season-high in the event...served the team as a co-captain...an EAGL All-Academic Team honoree and a NACGC/W All-American Scholar-Athlete.
SOPHOMORE (2003): Saw her first action as a Panther in her second season...competed on the uneven bars on 10 occasions, averaging 9.343 points per routine...had a season-best 9.775 on the bars in two different meets -- Jan. 18 against Missouri and March 22 at Michigan State...also scored a 9.725 three times for the Panthers...an EAGL All-Academic Team honoree and a NACGC/W All-American Scholar-Athlete.
FRESHMAN (2002): Did not compete in her first year with the Panthers due to injury.
HIGH SCHOOL: Was a three-time Monroe County and section 5 champion at Pittsford Sutherland High School in Pittsford, N.Y....team most valuable gymnast in sophomore, junior and senior seasons...led Pittsford Sutherland to second place at the state championships in 1999...the 2000 New York state vault champion...also the 2000 Region 6 beam champion and placed third in the all-around...won the New York state floor championship in 2001 and placed second in the all-around...competed in the 1999 Empire State Games on the second-place team...a member of National Honors Society...received high school's Academic Athlete Award and United States Army Reserve National Scholar Athlete Awad.
PERSONAL: Born April 20, 1984 in Gloucester, England...daughter of Steve and Wendy Tait...has one sister...a history and communications major.
