PITTSBURGH -

Pitt sophomore Alicia Talucci earned her second all-around title of the season Friday night as the Panthers (0-3, 0-1 EAGL) fell to Ohio State, 194.200 to 192.250.

“Tonight was a little better,” Pitt head coach Debbie Yohman said. “I think we got a distracted during bars and that carried over to beam for us. We brought it back on the floor though and finished off strong. We had a great night on vault, and we improved two points from last week so we have to keep working in that direction.”

Talucci (Coatesville, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) scored a 38.850 on the all-around to take her second consecutive title of the season. Talucci out-paced Ohio State’s Hillary Dow in second with a 38.775.

“Alicia got hurt a little on bars, but everything else tonight was exceptional,” Yohman said. “She is probably angry with her bars performance, but that is something that is great about her. If she makes mistakes, she fixes them. There is not a lot of coaching involved with her because she works so hard and when it is meet time, she is ready.”

After the first rotation, the Panthers led 49.000 on vault to Ohio State’s 48.550 on uneven bars. Talucci led all scorers on vault with a 9.850, while Shannon Vafiadou (Mahwah, N.J./Mahwah) and Dani Bryan (Germantown, Md./Northwest) each tied for second, recording a 9.825 on the event.

For the second rotation, the Panthers moved to bars, while the Buckeyes took their turn on vault. Ohio State pulled ahead with a solid performance, leading 97.400 to 96.450. Pitt’s high score on bars was a 9.625 from Sarah Thompson (Shokan, N.Y./Onteora).

On beam, Pitt’s Talucci recorded the team’s top score with a 9.750, also good enough for a tie for first overall. After the third rotation, Ohio State held the 145.800 to 143.350 advantage.

The Panthers finished off strong, recording a 48.900 on the floor with a 9.825 for Talucci, while Molly Moyer (Telford, Pa./Buxmont Christian), Vafiadou and Mallory Brewer (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Catholic Central) each recorded a 9.775.

Pitt returns to action Saturday, Jan. 30 for a 4 p.m. EAGL meet at New Hampshire. New Hampshire will also serve as host to this year’s EAGL Championship.
