The Pitt gymnastics team scored a 194.75 on the way to a second place finish Friday night at the Chicago Style quad meet. No. 13 Arizona led all teams with a 195.950, while Texas Women's University scored a 192.825 and Illinois State finished with a 191.125.
Senior Alyssa Adrian tied for the uneven bars title with a 9.825 on the night, while freshman Lindsay Offutt recorded a 9.875 to tie for the floor exercise title.
"We started out the night with a hit set on beam, not perfect, but no falls," said head coach Debbie Yohman. "We welcomed Sedge (Haley Sedgewick) back on the floor but our senior didn't finish on her feet so floor was a mixed bag for us again. We made vault, typically our weakest event, our best. It was a good accomplishment for us. And then, we finished with another consistent bar set. Maya Ketner and Haley each had a great night with three solid events.
"It was a better performance for us overall than last week, although the judging was a bit tighter, but it was very fair, which made our score about the same. Every week we just keep finding tenths and improving!"
On vault, the Panthers' lowest score of the night was a solid 9.700, giving them a team score of 48.975. Freshmen Nicole Pearson and Lisa Soto paced Pitt each with a 9.825 on the event.
Adrian's 9.825 led all scorers on the bars and she was followed by sophomore Maya Ketner with a 9.800. Pitt finished with a team score of 48.725.
On beam, three Panthers scored a 9.725 on the night including Adrian, Laura Kummerle and Katie O'Rourke. Pitt recorded a team score of 48.425 on the event.
Offutt's winning score of 9.875 on the floor led all Panthers, while Sedgewick and O'Rourke followed each with a 9.750. Sedgewick returned to have three solid routines on the night. Pitt finished the floor with a 48.625 team score.
The Panthers stay on the road next weekend for a meet at N.C. State against George Washington, UNC, Bowling Green and William & Mary. The meet will be Saturday, Feb. 16 at 7 p.m.
