PITTSBURGH - Pitt's gymnastics team scored their season-best mark on the road Friday night in a quad meet at NC State with Maryland and William & Mary, recording a 195.075.
NC State claimed the meet title with a 196.100, followed by the Panthers, Maryland (194.750) and William & Mary (193.400).
The Panthers started out the night on bars and earned solid performances from senior Brittney Harris and sophomore Jacqueline Lucci, who tied for third with a 9.80. The team scored a 48.800 including a 9.750 from Lisa Soto, who finished with the fifth-best score of the night.
Moving on to the team's second rotation, balance beam, the Panthers were forced to count a fall and recorded a team score of 48.250. Senior Katie O'Rourke was a bright spot for the Panthers as she scored a 9.825 and finished in a tie for second. Following closely behind O'Rourke were sophomores Lindsay Offutt and Laura Kummerle, who both scored a 9.80 and finished tied for fourth with the third-best score of the meet.
On the floor exercise, Junior Haley Bodenheimerand O'Rourke led all Pitt scorers, tying for third with a 9.850, for the second-highest mark of the night. As a team, the Panthers recorded a 49.050, setting a team high for the squad.
Pitt finished up the night on vault scoring a 48.975 team mark. Sophomore Maebelle Pacheco again led the Panthers on the event, scoring a 9.825 and finishing fourth. Three Pitt gymnasts finished tied for fifth as Kori Macdonald, Nicole Pearson and Lisa Sotoeach scored a 9.80.
In the all-around, senior Brittney Harrisfinished the night with a 38.450 including the vault (9.750), bars (9.80), beam (9.10) and floor (9.80).
The Panthers return to action on Friday, March 7 when they host North Carolina and Maryland in a tri meet at Fitzgerald Field House at 7 p.m. The meet will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
