PITTSBURGH - The Pitt gymnastics team scored a 195.175 on Friday night against Michigan State in a dual meet at home. The Spartans scored a 195.600 to earn the win.
Senior Alyssa Adrian was the story of the night as she competed in the all-around for the first time in her career and scored a 39.150, the highest score of the night. Additionally, she tied for the floor title with a 9.875, finished second on the vault (9.825) and bars (9.875) and was ninth on the beam (9.575). Adrian's second place vault score was even more impressive due to the fact that it is the first time she has competed on that event in her career.
The Panthers began the night on the vault and came away with a team score of 48.850. Freshman Lisa Soto led the way for the second week in a row for Pitt, scoring a 9.825 to tie for second with Adrian. Haley Sedgewick rounded out the scorers for the Panthers in sixth place with a 9.750.
Pitt maintained its lead over the Spartans after the second rotation as the Panthers scored a 49.000. Junior Brittney Harris scored a career high on the uneven bars to claim the event title with a 9.90. Adrian's 9.875 took second and Sedgewick and Soto tied for fifth (9.750).
The Panthers finished strong on the floor with a 49.050 team score. O'Rourke and Adrian's always impressive routines didn't disappoint on Friday night as they tied for first with a 9.875. The event was competitive as no one in the meet scored lower than a 9.675.
Pitt concludes its regular season on Saturday, March 16 at 7 p.m. against Auburn at Fitzgerald Field House. Pitt's lone senior, Alyssa Adrian will be honored at the Senior Night activities.
