The Pitt gymnastics team scored a 194.400 en route to a win over Ball State on the road Thursday night as the Cardinals scored a 192.250.
"This was a bit of a moral victory for us," head coach Debbie Yohmansaid. "We came out with the win, but we had some kids performing not at 100%. They performed well though even though they were suffering through some illnesses. They didn't give up and competed well. In spite of some tight judging that was disappointing to us, we didn't get frustrated and didn't give up. We just kept getting better and better as the night progressed and that was exciting."
Pitt started out the night on uneven bars, scoring a 48.400 as a team. Senior Amy Varela and freshman Haley Bodenheimer tied for first on the event with a 9.725. Tying for fifth with a 9.675 was Alyssa Adrian and Bri Hoganfor the Panthers to round out placements.
Moving on to vault, Bodenheimer again claimed the event title with a 9.825, which ties her career best score.
