RALEIGH, N.C. - The Pitt gymnastics team competed in its third consecutive road contest this weekend when they took on No. 24 NC State. The Panthers (8-9, 4-3 EAGL) scored a 192.925 against the Wolfpack (13-11, 5-3 EAGL). NC State won the meet with a 195.900.

On the vault, Pitt scored a 48.675 with its top performance coming from Dani Bryan (Germantown, Md./Northwest). The Pitt freshman scored a 9.800 for fourth place. Two other freshmen came through for the team as well. Jessica Byich (Nicktown, Pa./Bishop Carroll) and Shannon McConnell (Allison Park, Pa./North Allegheny). Winning the vault competition was Leigha Hancock with a 9.900 for the Wolfpack.

Pitt senior Andrea Arlotta (Cincinnati, Ohio/Northwest) led the uneven bars squad, capturing her fifth title on this event this season. Next for the Panthers was Alix Croop (Allentown, Pa./Bridgeway Academy) with a 9.650 for eighth. Byich finished ninth with a 9.625. Pitt scored a 47.775 on the event.

The Panthers stepped it up on the balance beam with a season-high 48.525. Sophomore Anya Chayka (Germantown, Md./Richard Montgomery) placed second with a career-high 9.825. This is her second personal-best on this event in two meets. Samantha DeBone (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) placed fourth with a 9.775, and Andrea Konesky (Pittsburgh, Pa./Bishop Canevin) took seventh with a 9.675. NC State's Hancock won this event as well with a 9.875.

Pitt only competed five gymnasts on the floor exercise, scoring a 47.950. The team was led by Arlotta and McConnell who tied for sixth with a 9.725. Senior Jessica Garber (Manheim, Pa./Lancaster Country Day School) scored a 9.650 for eighth.

 

 

In the all-around competition, NC State freshman Taylor Seaman won with a 39.175. Arlotta came in third for the Panthers with a 38.900, and Bryan placed fifth with a 37.725.

The Panthers will wrap up their season on the road next week when they travel to No. 9 Oklahoma for a dual meet. The competition is scheduled for 7 p.m.
