PITT GYMNASTICS FALLS TO MICHIGAN STATE

PITTSBURGH - The University of Pittsburgh gymnastics team traveled to East Lasing, Mich., tonight for its first road meet of the season against Michigan State. The Panthers put up valiant efforts in all four events, but the Spartans (2-0, 0-0 Big Ten) proved to be too much and took the competition by a score of 193.600-190.700.
The Panthers (0-3, 0-0 EAGL) began the night on bars and were led by Sarah Thompson's score of 9.725, which tied her for fifth place in the event. She would later post another team-high score on beam for Pitt with a third-place overall mark of 9.775. It marked the second time in as many meets that Thompson (Shokan, N.Y./Onteora) posted a team-high score in an event. She recorded a mark of 9.725 to lead the Panthers on beam against Penn State and Kent State last week.
Junior Alix Croop finished one spot behind Thompson on bars with a mark of 9.700, tying her score on the event from last week's meet. Croop (Allentown, Pa./Bridgeway Academy) also placed sixth on floor with a 9.650.
Dani Bryan claimed a share of the vault crown for the second consecutive meet. Bryan (Germantown, Md./Northwest) registered a score of 9.850 and equaled Michigan State's Rochelle Robinson to split the event title between the two teams.
Molly Moyer, the reigning EAGL Rookie of the Week, paced the Panthers on floor against the Spartans. Moyer (Telford, Pa./Homeschooled) took a share of second place in the event with her score of 9.750. She also finished second on the team and tied for sixth overall on vault with a 9.625.
The Panthers will continue their 2007-08 schedule when they travel to Durham, N.H., for their first EAGL conference meet against New Hampshire on Saturday, Jan. 26. Action will begin at 7 p.m.
