The Pitt gymnastics squad travels to New Hampshire for a Saturday afternoon meet with the Wildcats at 4 p.m. in Durham, N.H., at Lundholm Gymnasium.
"This week as we were training for our dual at New Hampshire I saw the confidence beginning to return that we were displaying in December,” said Pitt head coach Debbie Yohman. “Our performance in our opener was certainly not indicative of the potential on this team, but we’ve got to prove it out on the floor. And hopefully that point was made in every practice this week. We can choose to go into UNH and succeed with what we’ve been training, or not. I think one of my freshmen said it best, ‘we need to be mentally tougher!’”
Both teams are looking to rebound this weekend after a Pitt loss on the road at Maryland, and a home loss to Penn State for New Hampshire. The Wildcats are 1-1 on the season with an EAGL victory over Rutgers to begin the season (191.05-189.575) and a loss (196.125-194.250) to No. 13-ranked Penn State last weekend.
Pitt competed in their first meet of the season last Saturday night on the road at Maryland. The Panthers fell 193.850-189.650 despite senior Alicia Talucci’s 9.725 on the balance beam that won her the title. Sophomore Brittney Harris earned the all-around title with a 36.825 on the night.
The last time Pitt and UNH met in the regular season resulted in a 193.750-192.650 loss on Jan. 23, 2011 at home. Pitt will return home for its home opener on Friday, Jan. 27 against Ohio State at Fitzgerald Field House at 7 p.m.
